NYC Tri-Institutional TB Research Advancement Center (NYC TRAC)

Research Presented by NYC TRAC at The Union-NAR Conference

In February 2026, members of our NYC TRAC showcased their latest research at the 30th Annual Conference of the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease - North America Region in Philadelphia. The research highlighted ongoing efforts to address critical challenges in TB care and prevention and spanned across clinical, epidemiological, and global health domains.

Dr. Melanie Dubois, Assistant Professor in Pediatric Infectious Diseases at Weill Cornell, presented a case study on congenital TB in a newborn infant born to a mother with miliary TB in New York City.

Dr. Melissa Pierre, Pediatrician at GHESKIO in Haiti, reported encouraging findings on high treatment success rates for multidrug-resistant TB (MDR-TB) among children and adolescents in Haiti, demonstrating the impact of sustained programmatic efforts in resource-limited settings.

Dr. Nao Haba, Senior Research Associate at Weill Cornell, presented data on treatment outcomes among individuals with cavitary TB in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, contributing to a deeper understanding of disease severity and response to therapy.

Dr. Kathleen Walsh, Assistant Professor in Medicine at Weill Cornell, served as a mentor for Dr. Pierre and Dr. Haba, reflecting TRAC’s commitment to fostering interdisciplinary mentorship and advancing early-career investigators.
